This project involves the building of 3 new townhouses on a site previously occupied by a bungalow. Each house is based around a simple group of zones, allowing for alternative configurations of bedrooms, bathrooms and living spaces. Environmental studies were carried out to determine locations of balconies to prevent solar gain in hot summer months, and allowing solar gain in the winter months. Other strategies include natural stack ventilation and louvre panels. These ‘passive’ strategies are key to the potential success of this project. By designing solutions into the building fabric, we can reduce the need to retro-fit environmental systems.
